Per a Current± News article by Molly Green, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has launched a call for evidence on mandating solar PV installations on car parks across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The move, described as a “better deal for motorists and businesses” has the potential to reshape how we think about energy generation, public infrastructure, and the road to net zero. It’s a policy already working in France, where similar legislation is unlocking up to 11GW of additional solar capacity.
At CrowdHouse Energy™, this is beyond a promising idea, it is the direction we have already committed to. Since 2019 we have been Creating Powerful Spaces with Helios Volt®, our flagship PURE bifacial solar parking canopy.
Helios Volt® is the world’s most powerful, progressive, modular, bifacial solar PV parking canopy, engineered to transform underutilised car park space into clean energy assets. Built in the UK, it is designed with integration in mind, delivering megawatt scale power in the urban environment supporting EV charging, while helping businesses reduce grid dependency and carbon emissions. With the government estimating that an 80-space car park could save up to £28,000 annually if energy is used on-site, the case for action is both environmental and economic.
To meet the anticipated demand, we have recently expanded our manufacturing capability, securing a larger facility to increase our production capacity and shorten delivery times. Our new space in the North East allows us to deliver more Helios Volt® projects, serve more sectors, and play an even greater role in accelerating the clean energy transition.
This call for evidence signals more than a policy shift, it signals a shift in mindset. Solar carports are no longer optional. They are essential infrastructure for a future where power is local, transport is electric, and every square metre must work harder for people and the planet.
Our CEO, Richard Blackwell had this to say about the recent news:
‘We are thrilled that the Labour Government and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, led by Ed Miliband are looking into the massive part that Solar PV Parking Canopies have to play in global Net Zero ambitions. We have long been advocates of this technology, developing our own product Helios Volt®, made here in the UK. As a Renewable Energy Technologies business, we believe in the right solution for the problem and Solar PV Parking Canopies provide ample opportunity for scalable urban energy generation, where the energy is needed most, whilst avoiding the needless destruction of natural habitats or utilisation of farmland for utility scale ground mounted arrays, along with the huge infrastructure and transmission costs they bring with them’
CrowdHouse Energy is ready. Helios Volt® is ready.
