Challenge

Potts Print (UK), a renowned printing company with a legacy of environmental responsibility, sought to further its sustainability goals while addressing rising energy costs. With ambitious targets to reduce Scope 2 and Scope 3 carbon emissions, the company identified solar energy as a practical and impactful solution to achieve these objectives.

The challenge, however, was to design and implement a solar PV system that could deliver exceptional energy performance while aligning with Potts Print’s operational needs. The system had to maximise energy savings, integrate seamlessly into the facility, and ensure long-term sustainability benefits for the company.

Solution

To meet Potts Print’s requirements, CrowdHouse Energy installed a state-of-the-art solar PV system utilising Monofacial N-Type PV modules rated at 455W under Standard Test Conditions (STC). This advanced technology is renowned for its high efficiency and robust performance, even under varied weather conditions.

The system has an installed capacity of 438.6 kWp, ensuring substantial energy generation to power Potts Print’s operations. The solar panels were strategically deployed to optimise roof space utilisation, minimise shading losses, and deliver consistent energy output. CrowdHouse Energy carefully managed the project to ensure minimal disruption to Potts Print’s day-to-day activities, providing a solution tailored to their unique requirements.

Result

The solar PV installation at Potts Print (UK) has delivered outstanding results, solidifying her commitment to sustainability while achieving substantial financial benefits. With an annual energy output of 369,928 kWh, the system now powers a significant portion of Potts Print’s operations, reducing its reliance on grid electricity and contributing to its energy independence.

Environmentally, the system has made a notable impact by reducing Scope 2 carbon emissions by 76.60 tonnes of CO₂e annually, helping Potts Print align with its broader sustainability objectives. This achievement positions the company as a leader in the printing industry’s transition towards cleaner, greener energy practices.

Financially, the installation has proven to be a game-changer, offering energy savings of up to £16,500 per month. Over a 30-year period, the total energy value is projected to reach £4.18 million, ensuring long-term economic stability. Additionally, the project boasts a remarkable return on investment (ROI) of 1954%, with a payback period of just 2.3 years. This demonstrates how renewable energy investments can be both environmentally and financially transformative.

By adopting this innovative solar solution, Potts Print has set a benchmark for sustainability within the printing industry, exemplifying how businesses can successfully merge environmental responsibility with economic advantage.
