Challenge
The steel sector is traditionally seen as one of the hardest industries to decarbonise, with high energy demand and exposure to volatile grid prices. Parker Steel needed a solution that would lower its carbon footprint, stabilise energy costs, and demonstrate sustainability leadership without disrupting core operations.
Solution
CrowdHouse Energy™ designed and installed a 999.18 kWp rooftop solar PV system at Parker Steel’s Canterbury facility, one of the largest in the South East. The installation features Jinko Solar Tiger Neo 585W N-Type monofacial modules with 25 years linear power warranty, supported by comprehensive O&M packages. This high-performance system ensures reliable, long-term clean energy generation tailored to the demands of an industrial site.
Result
The rooftop solar PV system at Parker Steel is already delivering impressive results, reducing reliance on grid electricity and supporting the company’s sustainability goals. Modelled projections show the system will save around 176 tonnes of CO₂e annually, cutting Scope 2 emissions and helping Parker Steel align with the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
Financially, the project is expected to achieve savings of up to £32,742 per month, with a total energy value of £9.7 million over 25 years. With a rapid 2.2-year payback period and an ROI up to 1,822%, the installation provides both long-term cost stability and environmental impact, setting a benchmark for renewable energy adoption in the steel industry.
